Expatriate Tax Consultant

This position provides an exciting role for an ambitious and enthusiastic qualified tax professional looking to take more management responsibility for a predominately international assignee tax portfolio with a few UK personal individuals.

The current and expected level of activity from our corporate clients provides the opportunity for the right candidate to make more of the international advisory work, have direct client contact and lead this aspect of the tax service offering.

The successful candidate will require a broad range of experience in the international assignment and personal tax area. Working within the F&L tax team, the role also requires effective communication with the F&L Payroll & HR team and externally, including managing US tax providers, to ensure an efficient and compliant service.

Due to the high proportion of advisory work, the role provides the opportunity to work directly with the Tax Partner/Directors and be the clients’ first point of contact. It will also lead to involvement in all aspects of the international assignee programme, including development of the employer’s international assignment policy, advisors in the other host or home location and responsibility for managing the compliance cycle and filing deadlines.

What are some of the key responsibilities?

  • Manage a portfolio of predominately international assignees with several UK domestic personal tax clients
  • Being the primary contact for the clients with international assignees and for the assignees themselves
  • Leading client meetings including arrival and departure meetings for new assignees to the UK
  • Setting up correct HMRC registrations, various HMRC applications and tax codings on behalf of assignees
  • Managing the modified payrolls and gross up calculations
  • Organising international and shadow payroll set ups
  • Preparation of UK tax estimates and UK hypothetical tax calculations
  • Preparation of UK tax returns and managing the compliance cycle
  • Tracking work and managing WIP
  • Liaising with US tax advisors, other country service providers and work referrers
  • Ensure all clients receive an excellent level of service; organising and prompting when needed

What are the essential requirements?

  • Approximately 4-6 years’ experience working in international assignments and, if possible, UK personal tax in a professional organisation
  • Organised and self-motivated and used to taking responsibility for their work and compliance deadlines
  • Accuracy and an eye for detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • ATT or CTA qualified
  • Experience and knowledge of the following:
    • International assignments:
      • Implications for new arrivals in the UK and leavers from the UK including DDR, OWD and COLA
      • Employer obligations for STBV
      • Payroll and social security requirements including S690 and FTC arrangements
      • Tax equalisation including practical experience of the calculations
      • Tax coding and payments on account
      • Remittance basis and non-domicile rules
      • Stock awards cross border
      • Preparation of assignment packages and agreement
    • Stock options generally including EMI qualifying plans
    • UK personal tax including income tax, capital gains tax, National Insurance and Inheritance Tax
    • Compliance cycle including preparation of UK Self Assessment tax returns
    • Employer compliance reporting – P11Ds, PSAs, ERS etc.
    • Working knowledge of US tax preferred but not essential
  • Bright and enthusiastic with ambition to create and build the service and, in time, recruit to the team
  • The candidate will need to show strong attributes as a team player, willing to be involved in new areas of work and to contribute to a hardworking, vibrant tax team

Management Accountant

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented individual to join our award winning and growing International Financial Outsourcing team as a Management Accountant.

We have a particular focus on the international tech sector and advise some of the most exciting and fastest growing companies in the world, as well as a number of dynamic entrepreneurs and thriving private businesses. We therefore need people with engaging personalities as well as great skills.

This role will be dedicated to performing day to day accounting and reporting operations for a varied portfolio of clients. You will need strong experience in preparing full monthly management accounts and working to strict reporting deadlines.

What are some of the key responsibilities?

  • Control of a portfolio of clients, ensuring all client reporting and payment deadlines are met
  • Preparation of monthly journals; comprehensive multi territory and departmental salary journals, prepayments, accruals and depreciation
  • Preparation of accurate departmental monthly financial reporting packs for review, ensuring any anomalies are solved promptly
  • Preparation of compliant VAT returns
  • Organising source documentation received from clients and delegating information to Financial Administrators (FAs) for client updates, ensuring expectations are clearly defined
  • Supervision and training of FAs, answering queries where necessary ensuring any work delegated is reviewed for correctness
  • The review of payment runs
  • Maintaining excellent relations with clients, acting as a key point of contact, responding effectively to routine queries and resolving any issues
  • Understanding client contracts, ensuring a thorough understanding of the contracted scope of work so that fees can be agreed for any additional work requests, and the raising of special bills once said work is complete
  • Assisting team as and when required
  • Assistance with yearend procedures and liaising with client auditors

What are the essential requirements?

  • Strong experience in preparing full monthly management accounts
  • Excellent IT skills and strong accounting system experience
  • Ability to manage own tasks, good time management and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • An analytical approach with good attention to detail
  • Self-discipline and ability to make and justify own decisions
  • Good understanding of VAT reporting requirements – imports, sales and purchases of EC goods and services
  • Very strong communication skills and confidence when dealing with clients

Manager, UK Tax Services

We are looking for a qualified Tax Manager to take on this rewarding role. You need to have excellent UK corporation tax / deferred tax knowledge, outstanding client service skills and the ability to help manage a strong team.

What are some of the key responsibilities?

  • Responsible for own portfolio of clients (compliance and consulting on corporation tax, employer tax, indirect tax/duty)
  • Manage the Tax team, with some strategic focus
  • Offer input on and contribute to the development and evolution of the team budget
  • Responsible for engagement letters and KYC for own portfolio of clients
  • Day-to-day responsibility for tax filings for own portfolio
  • Develop the staff, offer guidance and advice to Consultants looking for support on certain matters (technical or otherwise)
  • Provide excellent client service
  • Develop positive, professional relationships with other teams within F&L

What are the essential requirements?

  • Professionally qualified with ICAEW, ACCA or CTA
  • Ideally experience working within professional services
  • Excellent UK corporation tax/deferred tax knowledge and ability to share that knowledge with team and colleagues
  • Ideally experience of VAT and employment taxes although support will be given if required
  • Outstanding client service skills
  • Working with senior individuals employed by our clients (CFOs, CEOs etc)
  • Commercially aware in terms of financial targets, client service, business risk and efficiencies
  • Seen to take responsibility for clients

Senior Management Accountant (Qualified ACA / ACCA)

This will be a varied role, where no two days are the same. You will need to be a fully qualified Accountant with a practice background and have strong experience in reviewing full monthly management accounts and working to set reporting deadlines.

What are some of the key responsibilities?

  • Full review of management accounts, ensuring technical accuracy and any anomalies are investigated and resolved before submission to the client
  • Control of a portfolio of clients, ensuring all client reporting and payment deadlines are met
  • Preparation of complex financial reporting packs (revenue reconciliations, comprehensive multi-currency / multi-territory / departmental reporting, consolidated accounts etc.)
  • Supervision of Accounts Assistants and Financial Administrators, ensuring they are completing their work correctly, providing guidance and training where necessary
  • Review of VAT return submissions, EC sales lists and Intrastat returns, arranging any necessary payment
  • Maintaining excellent relations with clients, acting as the main finance point of contact, responding effectively to reporting or ad hoc technical queries and resolving any issues
  • Review of payment runs and online BACs payment submissions
  • Liaising with teams across the firm together with international local service providers for completion of UK and global compliance tasks
  • WIP and billing control; understanding client contracts, ensuring a thorough understanding of the contracted scope of work and agreeing additional fees where required
  • Identifying and implementing enhancements to the existing routines and control systems to improve efficiencies

What are the essential requirements?

  • You must be an ACA / ACCA qualified accountant
  • Strong experience in reviewing full monthly management accounts, as well as preparation
  • Thorough understanding of comprehensive VAT reporting requirements – imports, sales and purchases of EC goods and services
  • A practice background
  • Excellent technical ability
  • Strong IT skills
  • Ability to manage own tasks, good time management and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines
